Mission Statement:  Together we strive to educate all students to achieve at or above grade level.

Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) ( Grades 3-5)
Starting on this Monday Apr 29, 2024 ,we will begin our SBA for the 5th grade in the area of science.  Starting May 6 to May 17, grades three through five will be completing their state assessments in the subjects of English Language Arts and Mathematics.  We recognize that this is only one measure that gauges our students’ success.  We know how hard the students  have been working all year and we are so very proud of them.  Here are some tips for a successful testing period.
  • Promote Healthy Habits- Ensure your child gets enough sleep, eats well, and exercises
  • Offer emotional support- Reassure your child, provide encouragement, and help manage any test-related stress or anxiety.
  • Practice Time Management/Perseverance These are untimed tests but they are long. Continue to work on persevering and working hard during the testing period to  avoid being a person that only clicks on answers without reading the question.
  • ATTENDANCE COUNTS- Please do your best to have your students at school during the testing period.

Congratulations to our Classified Staff of the Year
At our spirit assembly today, we recognized our classified staff of the year.  The classified staff has many categories and multiple winners can be from one school.  We are fortunate  that we were able to have three classified staff of the year.  Here again are the winners of the classified staff of the year.
Heidi Labrie- Attendance Clerk-  she is in charge of our enrollment and attendance.  She ensures that all students get credit for school and also makes the calls when they miss school.
Diana Rodriguez- campus supervisor- Diana supervises all of our students during both lunch and recess.  She is responsible for the health and welfare of your children when they are out of class.
Karsyn Sack- Paraeducator  3-  Karsyn works in the special education department and works with a specific student, she is a team player and supports all students.  She also is a teacher of our STEM classes.
The District  will be recognizing  them at CAPO High School on Monday night. Please congratulate them on a job well done.  We are so blessed to have them as our co-workers at Tijeras Creek.
The secret to happiness is to count your blessings while others are adding up their troubles.

Don’t forget if you are going to have your child absent for 3 or more days, to request an Independent Study Contract from Ms. Heidi in the front office. If your child completes all the school work, they will receive credit for their absence. Click Tijeras Creek Elementary School - Attendance Procedures  or see below for more details.
If a student will be away from the classroom for at least 3 days, an Independent Study Contract can be arranged through the front office. This contract provides students with lessons/activities to complete while away from the classroom so they do not fall behind in their studies.
To request an Independent Study Contract, the following procedures are necessary:
  •         A telephone call, email, or note from the parent must be received at least 5 days (exceptions are considered, but not guaranteed) prior to the student’s first day away from the classroom.
  •         The student must be gone for a minimum of 3 school days, but no more than 10 school days per contract.  A student may utilize up to 14 days per school year.
  •         The first school day after the ending date of the Independent Study Contract, the student/parent must turn in all homework to the teacher. This is for auditing purposes by the state.
If these procedures are not followed, the contract becomes invalid.
