Message from the Principal:
School Connectedness
We want our students to feel connected to our school at Tijeras Creek. How do we do this? We do this by having events both provided by PTA and the school that promotes community. We celebrated Buddy Week this past week. During this week we had classes work on activities together to help promote kindness. Are we perfect in the area of kindness? No we are not. We are a work in progress. We work with students that are impulsive, get upset, and can have some challenges. Our goal is to work with all students to provide a foundation for what it means to be kind. We are going to be working on this all year. I want to Thank the PTA and Ms. Cress for all the work they put into putting events together. We have the Monster Mash, Family Night Dinner Out, and the Trading Posts. All these extra efforts make students feel connected. We want to create a welcoming environment where students want to come to school. Just a side note on attendance on Tuesday September 19 there was only one student that was absent. That is outstanding!
Tiger Time in Action
We began Tiger Time the first week of September. We are working to support all students in what they need. This year in Tiger Time we are working with Tier 2 and extension supports. We have priority standards that we work on in the classroom but provide those that are in need of some extra support during Tiger Time. Those who have mastered that priority standards are working on extension activities. Examples of these can be research projects, book studies, use of technology to provide presentations. We want to challenge all our students. We want all our students to be successful and beyond. Thanks for your support in this effort.
STEM Class starting this Wednesday
We will begin our STEM class this Wednesday for our 1st graders. We have filled the 20 spots and will have them meet in the Maker’s Space at 12:50 and finish at 1:30. Please pick up your child promptly. We will meet for four weeks and then we will be starting another class but for second grade. It should be a great experience for all. Thanks to all Ms. Lyndsey, Ms. Karsyn, and Ms. Diane for leading this effort.
