Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and restorative practices
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is essential in creating a supportive school environment that promotes positive behaviors and academic success. It helps reduce disruptive behaviors by teaching and reinforcing expected behaviors, providing clear expectations, and offering consistent support. PBIS emphasizes proactive interventions, which create a more inclusive and positive school culture.
Moving toward restorative practices complements PBIS by focusing on building relationships and repairing harm rather than punishing students. Restorative approaches encourage accountability, empathy, and open communication, helping students understand the impact of their actions on others. This focus on dialogue and connection strengthens the sense of community and fosters a safer, more respectful environment.
By combining PBIS with restorative practices, schools can cultivate both behavioral improvements and meaningful personal growth. The result is not only fewer behavioral issues but also enhanced social-emotional development, creating a healthier, more collaborative school climate.
We continue to work on this with our PBIS committee and improve student behavior. Thanks for your part in being involved and creating a caring learning environment.
Walk to School Day is Wednesday Oct 9, 2024
This Wednesday is the National “Walk to School” day for our country. On that day, we identify the importance of health and exercise. We will be recognizing those that are walking to school from our streets to our campus. ( It can be challenging to do this due to where many of you live). Thanks for being a part of supporting this health and exercise program. Healthy body results in a healthy mind!
"An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day."
Henry David Thoreau
